Over 1,000 entrees were received for the 2nd Annual Fractal Contest from artists all over the world. The selection process was long and delicate, but of course the contest could not hold such an enormous amount of entrees. So at the end of the month 350 works were left to be the selected entrees for the AFC2.
All this works were divided between the various categories and were submitted to the jury voting processes, as described in previous page. I have drawn the stats from the competing entries and the results are submitted here for your info. At this point I would like to thanks Anam Cara and Sharon Shultz for their invaluable help making this stats; I have run the counting 3 times, using AC's and Sharon's data to compare and validate the results. Anyway, mistakes in math always occur, (as any bank note says:), so if you find any, please let me know. The Stats were surprising in some ways and predictable in others; They certainly were totally contrary to some ridicule and irresponsible stats published previously elsewhere by some tired oldie. The AFC2 statistics nullify that joke and present the balanced stats derived from the works of dozens of the best fractal artists from all over the world. Here are the results:
That UF is still standing in the first place (with 105 points) was no surprise, but the huge surprise was the FE status. Fractal Explorer has emerged from a small used generator into a most popular fractal generator with 74 points(!) - about 75% of UF works! This is a very important turn in the fractal art community, as the monopoly of the commercial UF is falling down in favor of the free FE software. Judging from the announcements by Arthur and Olga (FE authors) of expected updates, I will dare a calculated guess, that during next year FE will become the most popular program with fractal artists. Following just after UF and FE are 3 other old time favorites: KPT5 FraXplorer (33), TZ (33) and Sterlingware (18). All other programs are just used randomly with no statistical significance. Now I have checked the occurrence of pp works in the AFC2 and the graphical packages used for it. Here no surprise whatsoever: In the first place was PS with 36 points and following after PSP with 16 points. All other programs were randomly used with no statistical importance. The total number of pp works was 86, which is less then 25% of the entrees in the AFC2 competing exhibition. The results follow here:
Again my thanks to all fractal artists who made this event happen :) So, till next year... Greetings, Jo:) Dr. Joseph Trotsky Artis Fractal Gallery April, 2002 |
