Mind-Boggling Fractals Features:
  • Mind-Boggling Fractals has many features, but perhaps the two that will appeal to most people are the ease of use and the variety of fractal rendering methods (currently 20).
  • Simple installation. The setup program runs automatically when the CD is inserted. All you have to do is specify the directory to contain the program.
  • FREE and easy upgrades. As the program grows over time with additional equations and rendering methods, program upgrades will be available at this site for downloading. Just copy them over the older versions of the files - no need to mess with the registry. The upgrades will work only for people that made an initial installation from the CD.
  • Built-in tutorial. The built-in tutorial helps users get started using the program and also offers advice on how to find interesting fractals. To get an idea of what the type of advice the tutorial provides, click here.
  • Very Fast. Although the author has contributed some equations and rendering methods to the Fractint and UltraFractal programs as user-defined formulas, neither program has them built in. As a result, Mind-Boggling Fractals creates the type of fractals found here approximately twice as fast as UltraFractal and nine times as fast as Fractint.
  • The entire plot is displayed, regardless of the image size (which can be up to 4096x4096 pixels). You can zoom in or out on the reduced size image, eliminating the hassle of scrolling while zooming.
  • An easy-to-use color editor designed specifically for this type of fractals. Colors can be rotated in ranges, causing the colors of the image elements to change instantly. Colors are modified by preset ranges, making colormap modification very easy to do. An image's colors can be saved to a colormap file that can be loaded to instantly change the colors of another image. To view the effect on an image of rotating the color ranges, click here.
  • All the information needed to recreate a fractal image can be saved in a parameter file. Other fractal programs have this feature, but Mind-Boggling Fractals makes the saving and loading of the fractal parameters extremely easy.
  • Images are saved in the popular standard 8-bit PNG format that is rapidly replacing the GIF format for images of this type. All the latest browsers, viewers and image processing packages support this format. All of the information used to generate a fractal is embedded in the PNG file, so you can save a partially completed fractal and then at a later time you can load the PNG file and complete the fractal. The fractal images on these pages were converted from PNG to GIF format to accommodate obsolete browsers.
  • An auxiliary image file manager program lets you preview the images created by Mind-Boggling Fractals, gives you information about the images, and lets you rename or delete the image files. Very easy to use.
  • Free program support and advice on fractals via email.

Additional Info:

The Mind-Boggling Fractals program makes it as easy as possible for you to create the type of fractal images for which the program's author has become internationally known - fractal images with sharply defined elements having a rounded, 3D appearance. The program requires absolutely no knowledge of fractals or mathematics and is suitable for both fractal novices and fractal experts. Fractal novices will appreciate the easy-to-use user interface and tutorial. Fractal experts will appreciate having all of the author's fractal rendering methods and equations in one program and the ability to switch between them instantly.
